A Hartford man set fire to the house he lived in yesterday afternoon, destroying the building and displacing three families according to police. He’s now under arrest. Firefighters arriving at 14 Brook Street yesterday saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story home. The families inside immediately rushed out. No one was injured but firefighters said that an elderly woman had to be escorted to safety.

A Bridgeport man is accused of stabbing his teenage niece to death at an apartment on Fairfield Avenue Monday night. Police said the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Richard Segabiro, called 911 around 10 p.m. and said he had killed his 16-year-old daughter. Police responded to his apartment at 2292 Fairfield Avenue and found Segabiro covered in flood and his niece, who he raised as his daughter, dead in the bathroom. She had multiple stab wounds, police said.
